The Postponer

You are not, in any deep sense, an Avoider.

Planned for release phase 2. The page is complete as a draft; interactive parts run in the browser and do not yet save to an account.

In brief

Avoider Avoider · Band 1. You are not, in any deep sense, an Avoider. You have been meaning to engage with the tools and have not got around to it. The reasons are real: you are busy, the tools change every few months, you have not seen a clear use case for your work, the people around you who use the tools are not people whose taste you trust. None of that is dishonest. It is just not strong enough to justify no engagement at all, and the not-engaging has accumulated into a position by default.

The work

The easiest of all placements to leave. You are one decision and a free Saturday afternoon away from being someone else. Pick one piece of work you do regularly. Pick one tool that, on cursory examination, might help with it. Spend three hours, once, applying the framework to that piece of work with that tool. Notice what happens. Most Postponers find the avoidance dissolves on its own, because it was never anchored to anything stronger than inertia.

Risks to watch

Two or three of these will appear on your result, chosen for your pattern of answers. Work on one at a time.

Reading another guide first

Resist. Twenty minutes of doing is worth ten hours of reading at this stage.

Skipping the framework and going straight to the tool

Do not. The framework is what stops you sliding from Postponer to Drifter — swapping one trap for the other.

Your roadmap

One Saturday afternoon, one tool, one real task, all eight steps. Use the workbench. Then decide whether the reasons were ever reasons. Retake in six months.

Read: Chapters 6, 7 and 10.

The placement is the diagnosis. The work is everything that happens after.
