In brief
Amplifier Amplifier · Band 3. You have been an Amplifier for years, not months. The framework is so internal you hold it lightly; the structure has become the shape of your thinking. Your attention has turned outward — to the work of the people around you, the systems they sit inside, and what to do about it. You may already be teaching, formally or not, or writing, or holding one-on-ones that look ordinary from outside and are, in fact, the slow building of capacity in someone else. This is the smallest population in the AMQ and the one on whom the next decade of this work depends.
The work
The roadmap from this band is the most personal of the nine. The assessment cannot honestly tell you what to do with what you have built; it can only encourage you to do something with it. The book's closing image — a young man in a client's kitchen, watching a smaller engineer who reminds him of where he was a year ago — is this band's opening question.
Risks to watch
Two or three of these will appear on your result, chosen for your pattern of answers. Work on one at a time.
Burnout from carrying the work outward
People who teach this sometimes give too much of themselves to it and become what they were trying to save people from. Keep your own life. The framework is a tool, not a religion.
Loss of touch with the entry experience
You may have forgotten what it was like to be confused by this, which makes the people who come to you harder to help. Periodically return to the basic frame; take an assessment that is not your own.
Mistaking your placement for permanence
A Mentor who stops practising the framework in their own work, because they are busy teaching it, drifts. Your own work has to stay a place where the framework is alive.
Your roadmap
Keep one live project of your own where you run all eight steps consciously. Reread a chapter of the book as if for the first time. And read the Passing It On page — it was written for you. Retake in six months.
